The Grands Montets cable car in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc is currently being completely rebuilt following the 2018 fire, with a brand-new lift system linking Argentière to the summit via Lognan. The project includes a modern 10 seater gondola, a state-of-the-art 3S cable car accommodating up to 24 people and striking new stations designed by the famous Italian architect Renzo Piano.
Scheduled to open in December 2026, the new lift reaches 3300m, restoring access to the legendary high-altitude terrain of Grands Montets, known for its exceptional snow, off-piste skiing and panoramic views. These are not marked pistes and are recommended for experienced skiers who can enjoy an incredible descent or discover more of the Hautes Montagnes by ski touring.
In good snow conditions, it will be possible to ski the full top-to-bottom descent with a vertical drop of over 2000m - the ultimate high-mountain skiing experience.
